Snake: A Survival Dinner

If you&rsquove raised chickens, maybe you have a similar experience. Chicken snakes love eggs. They swallow them whole and after that use their muscles to crack the eggs internally. Now this is a food article but I also like to point out that it could be about survival too, for which you may want to consider bullet proof vests.

There have been a couple of lumps with this snake&rsquos mid-section. Eggs, we thought. We tried breaking them, but couldn&rsquot. Was the snake&rsquos body holding the eggs so tightly we cannot break them from the outside?

We chose to check. So we dissected the cold-blood egg bandit determined not eggs, but projectiles!

Apparently the golf balls that individuals&rsquod place into the nesting boxes to inspire the poultry to lay their &ldquochicken balls&rdquo there had also fooled the snake. I will&rsquot believe it would mistake one for your other, but it did. Not once, but twice!

A Delicacy With A

I&rsquove seen on some survivals signifies that snakes bring a survival food. In fact, some cultures, I&rsquom told, even consider snake to be a delicacy (though no person ever seems to know exactly which cultures value snakes being a food.)

We thought we would prepare this snake being a survival meal. We didn&rsquot use seasonings or cookware. We planned to simulate the expertise of eating snake inside the bush, just as if we were stranded and required to survive with minimal supplies accessible to us.

The youngsters gathered tinder, kindling, and firewood to the impromptu cook fire. I grabbed my magnesium block from my Every Day Carry kit and started the cedar shavings tinder bundle. We used some green limbs to hold the snake within the fire and now we smoked it for quite a while. You can find bulletproof vests for sale here.

After ensuring it had been cooked thoroughly, we removed it through the heat and allow it to cool a little before attempting it.

Food Critic

Our research cooking a snake was worth keeping. We learned some good lessons through the experience.

First, some snakes, like rattlesnakes, can offer a significant meal to the survivalist. They're meaty and gives important calories. Chicken snakes usually are not some of those snakes. Chicken snakes are very thin and still have little useable meat.

Second, although simple to do, smoking the chicken snake made what meat there was clearly very dry and leathery. It turned out a little challenging to pull the meat off of the carcass. It had been much like eating a leather belt. I think next time, I&rsquoll try making a soup from the jawhorse. Or maybe simply cooking it less.

I&rsquove got word of people eating the bones of animals. We didn&rsquot try that. You&rsquod have to be mindful to munch the bones perfectly to keep them from getting lodged inside your throat.
